Chester H. Heinzel, 90

Chester "Chet" Henry Heinzel, 90, of Austin, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

He was born May 7, 1913, to Herman and Helen (Daubanton) Heinzel in Sauk Rapids.

On June 6, 1939, he married Mabel Elizabeth Marks in Kingston.

Chet served in the U.S. Army as a bandmaster for 26 years. His last tour of duty was with the U.S. Army Band in Washington, D.C. After his discharge from the Army, Chet and Mabel lived in California for many years, returning to Minnesota in 1990. Chet belonged to the American Legion in Sauk Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Heinzel, Austin; son, Gary (Nancy) Heinzel, Austin; daughter, Sara Heinzel, Penn Valley, Calif.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Heinzel, Las Vegas, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Frank Heinzel American Legion Post 254 in Sauk Rapids.

Raymond Gullickson, 78

Ray-mond Engh Gullickson, 78, of Austin, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Austin Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 30, 1925, to George and Valborg (Engh) Gullickson in Spring Valley, where he lived until 1943.

He lived in Minneapolis from 1946 until 1950. He married Dorothy Gene Andersen on Sept. 16, 1950, in Pillager. They lived in Austin where Ray was employed by Hormel Foods Corporation as a mechanical engineer until 1966 and transferred to Fort Dodge, Iowa. He transferred back to Austin in 1973 and retired in 1986.

A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, Ray belonged to Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion Post No. 91, University of Minnesota Alumni Association, Habitat for Humanity, Masonic Lodge, Golden K Kiwanis Club and 96th Infantry Division Association.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Austin; daughters, Carol (Jim) Altergott, Wichita, Kan.; Joan Gullickson, Owatonna; son, David Gullickson, Minneapolis; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George; and infant son, James.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003, at the funeral home and Monday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Flood officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91.
