In these dry conditions make sure trees are watered

Please be aware that your trees may need water with the dry spell we are experiencing.

You should water your trees with a slow drip to allow the water to soak in to the first 12 inches of soil.

Visit the Youth Activity Center located in the east rooms of Riverside arena.

Enter from the northeast doors located on the parking lot side of the building.

The YAC hours are 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3:30 to 9 p.m. Fridays, 1 to 9 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.  The YAC is open to students in grades 5 to 12 in Mower County.

Your next public skate opportunity will be 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday; 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays Sept. 21 and 28 at Riverside Arena.

The cost to skate is $4 and $1 to rent skates.  Ask us about family or individual memberships. They can be purchased at our office or at the arena during open skates.

On Tuesday, enjoy “Owls to Orchids” at the Ruby Rupner Auditorium with Mark “Sparky” Stensaas.

The event is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center and the Austin Audubon. The event starts at 7 p.m. and they ask that you RSVP by Monday at 507-437-7519 or email jchnatur@smig.net.

On Saturday, Sept. 28 starting at 9 a.m. will be the Hormel Nature Center’s 8K Run and one-mile kids’ run. Pre-register for $18 for the 8K or $5 for the kids’ run at www.facebook.com/HNC8K, or race day registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Cost is $25 for the 8K and $7 for the kids’run. This event is organized by Overby Orthodontics.

Try the Walking Meditation Class with Chris Anderson on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. This class is free; however, preregistration is necessary by Thursday, Sept. 26 by calling the Nature Center at 437-7519 or emailing jchnatur@smig.net .

We are starting our sign-up for the youth volleyball that will begin on Saturday mornings starting Oct. 26 for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade girls.

They will meet on Saturday mornings through Dec. 14 with no class on Nov. 30. The cost is $20. Call our office for more information.
