Austin High School students are getting ready to get down Thursday night.

The fifth annual AHS Variety show will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at Knowlton Auditorium, where singing, guitar playing and dance battles take the stage.

“A lot of (students) have been practicing for this,” said Brandon Drescher, math teacher at the Area Learning Center. Drescher has organized the variety show for the past two years.

There’s plenty to offer showgoers, Drescher said. Aside from singing, there will be guitar performances, break dancing and even a dance-off between AHS students.

All proceeds go towards the ALC’s Minnesota Association of Alternative Programming STARS membership. MAAP STARS is an organization which helps students who attend alternative school programs develop vocational and social skills and relationships. The proceeds will help pay for ALC trips to the MAAP STARS Fall Leadership Conference and the Spring Events Conference.
