Queen of Angels Church celebrates 75 years Sunday

Queen of Angels Catholic Church will celebrate its 75th anniversary this weekend with a special Sunday service.

The bishop will lead an 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday with a picnic lunch to follow. The afternoon will consist of various types of music, games for children and a prize drawing for all in attendance.

The church’s history traces back to 1936, when a new parish was commissioned east of Main Street. Workers broke ground in September 1937. The church has survived a multitude of natural disasters, including wind damage, four cases of flood damage and a fire in the bell tower in 1972.

Out of all the church’s founding members, about 16 are still alive. Look to the Religion page in Friday’s Herald for more on the church’s milestone.
