Admissions made in insurance fraud case

An Austin man in court for a June robbery and assault case pleaded guilty to two felonies in another recent case where he illegally tried to get medical treatment.

Willister Davenport, 40, pleaded guilty on Friday in Mower County Court to insurance fraud and theft by wrongfully obtaining assistance. He has another hearing on Nov. 16.

According to the court complaint, Davenport used his son’s Ucare card to receive treatments for mathadone at Rochester Metro Treatment Center. The complaint adds that Davenport used the card for rides from the Mower County Senior Center to the treatments and also tried to receive transportation reimbursement from Mower County Human Services.

Authorities began investigating the case several weeks ago and found Davenport’s alleged transportation claims to be consistent with the dates he signed in to use the senior center’s bus.

Davenport was charged in June for first-degree aggravated robbery and second- and third-degree assault for allegedly chasing a man on a bike and assaulting him to get back money he was owed. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.
