The countdown: Top local sports stories of 2012
The past year saw many local high school teams and athletes find success.
The Packer boys basketball team did something it hadn’t done in 30 years, the Blooming Prairie softball and Grand Meadow football teams almost did something they’ve never done and an Austin gymnast became a state champ.
Though the events themselves lasted just moments, they’ll forever be remembered by those involved.
10) Putting in work
Blooming Prairie sophomore Madison Worke started for the volleyball, basketball and softball team as a freshman and she’s already on pace to put herself in the school’s record books for volleyball.
Worke recorded her 1,000th career set assist halfway through her second season as a starter and she’s on pace to shatter BP’s former school record of 2,106 set assists if she can stay healthy.
Worke’s strongest trait is probably her unselfishness as she loves getting her hitters involved, even when she’s capable of putting down a few kills herself.
