Walz announces winner of 2015 Congressional art competition

Rep. Tim Walz recently announced the winners of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition.

“It is an honor to announce Jillian Hanesworth, a senior at Winona High School, as the winner of this year’s competition,” said Walz. “This is a unique competition that provides the opportunity to showcase the artistic talent of southern Minnesota students and acknowledge our nation’s gifted young artists. I’m looking forward to seeing Jillian’s artwork displayed in the Cannon tunnel at the Capitol.”

Hanesworth will have her artwork displayed in the Cannon Tunnel, leading to the U.S. Capitol, for an entire year.

Initiated by members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982, the event is a nationwide annual art competition that allows high schools students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories to showcase their artistic ability.
