Letter: Support Walz for governor

Austin Daily Herald

It isn’t very often that I write a letter to the editor. This is probably only the third I have submitted to the Daily Herald since being elected mayor. But the upcoming election for governor of Minnesota is so important to the future of our and other communities that it is worth sending in a letter.

Tim Walz is no stranger to Austin. As a member of Congress, he was very helpful to our community every time we reached out to him. He and his staff often took the initiative and also reached out to us on important issues before Congress, getting our input and thoughts on what would work best for Austin. He even helped me on some personal Veterans Administration issues that I was involved in.

That’s the type of governor Minnesota needs. Someone who will work for our communities to help them be the very best they can be; someone who views it as their role to help every day Minnesotans with the issues and challenges they face.

Tim Walz will be an excellent, hands-on governor, not only for Austin, but for all of Minnesota. For these reasons and more, I am a proud and enthusiastic supporter of his candidacy.

Thomas A. Stiehm, Mayor of the City of Austin
