Looking ahead to gaming 2015

It’s almost time for a new year, which means it’s almost time for a new set of games to anticipate.

2015 will mark the second full year of games for the Xbox One and Playstation 4, so gamers should expect quality next-gen titles and some new game series to explore. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but I’ve found several standout games I’ll look forward to next year.

 “Evolve”

Jan. 27: XB1, PS4, PC

Here’s a game about monsters and the people who try to hunt them. This little gem is already garnering attention for its fun multiplayer option: Four people play the monster-slaying team, while one person wreaks havoc as a giant monster. Needless to say, this looks as awesome as it sounds.

 “The Order: 1886”

Feb. 20: PS4

Werewolves, secret orders, Victorian London and knights. I’m pretty sure this title just won “Awesome Game Elements Bingo.” Here’s hoping the action-adventure game will meet expectations.

“Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain”

March 31: 360, PS3, PS4, XB1

This latest entry in the massively popular stealth action series looks to add a huge amount of new elements through an open world-style setting. It’s likely going to have exciting missions.

 “Mortal Kombat X”

April 14: 360, PS3, PS4, XB1

Rip out spines, crush skulls and perform all sorts of bloody fatalities with the latest “Mortal Kombat” game. The series has been on fire as of late, so the newest entry has a lot to live up to.

 “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”

May 19: PC, PS4, XB1

This sequel to a hugely popular RPG series pits superheroic tough guy Geralt against all sorts of medieval maladies and bad guys with badder intentions. Many gamers are hoping “The Witcher 3” ends up being a genre-defining experience.

 “Godzilla”

July 1: PS3, PS4

I don’t care how bad this game could be. It’s got Godzilla stomping through cities and crushing everything in his path. You get to upgrade Godzilla’s powers and it’s hinted he could use his super breath to fly, just like in “Godzilla vs. Hedorah.” This is going to be a Godzilla fan’s delight, but I’m just hoping it’s a passable experience.
