Alumni update: GM grad Benson is back from injury at St. Cloud State
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
After missing most of last season, Jessica Benson, a 2009 Grand Meadow grad, is back in the starting lineup at St. Cloud State (5-6 overall).
Benson poured in a team-high 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting with six rebounds in a 77-60 loss to Augustana Jan. 2 and she had a team-high 14 points, five rebounds and three assists in a 77-70 win over Jamestown University Nov. 15
Benson is averaging 6.9 points and 5.6 rebounds, while shooting 33 percent on three-pointers.
In her sophomore season with the Huskies, Benson averaged 10.8 points and 7 rebounds before suffering a season ending injury just six games into the season.
Leslie Wilson, a 2008 Hayfield grad led Wartburg with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting as the Knights (10-3 overall, 3-1 IIAC) topped Central College 77-57 Wednesday.
Wilson, a senior at Wartburg, is averaging 11.1 points, a team-high 6.3 rebounds and a team-high 2.3 steals per game. She is also shooting 58 percent from the field.
Rachel Rosedahl, a 2010 LeRoy-Ostrander grad, has played in seven games for Concordia-Moorehead (6-3 overall) this season. Rosedahl is still looking for her first career points, but she has grabbed four rebounds and had two steals this season.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Connor Gunderson, a 2009 Austin grad, has started every game for St. Olaf (5-6 overall) this season.
Gunderson is averaging 8.8 points, and 3.2 rebounds, while shooting 49 percent from the field.
Matt Zellmer, a 2009 Blooming Prairie grad, if receiving his first significant playing time at Luther College, as he’s played in all 11 games this season.
Zellmer, who scored nine points in a 90-48 win over Crown College Dec. 17, has averaged 2.4 points as he’s shot 7-of-14 on three-pointers.
Tanner Kramer, a 2010 Hayfield grad, has come off the bench in seven games for Wartburg (7-5 overall) this season.
He’s averaged 2.1 points and shot 4-of-10 on three-pointers for Wartburg (9-2 overall).
MEN’S HOCKEY
Austin grad Tim Kirby has five goals and seven assists this season for Air Force (10-5-2 overall)
Kirby is fourth on the team with 12 points.
Tim’s younger brother, John Kirby is third on the Austin Bruins (18-11-3 overall) with 21 points this season. John, who has made the change from defenseman to forward has a team-high 13 goals and eight assists.
