Mpls performance artist pleads guilty to nude swim

MINNEAPOLIS — A Twin Cities performance artist ticketed for skinny-dipping had planned to use personal expression as a defense.

But on the day his trial was to begin, 58-year-old Patrick Scully pleaded guilty Wednesday to proper attire required in a park, a misdemeanor. He received a suspended sentence of 60 days in the Hennepin County Workhouse and $378 in fines and surcharges.

Charges of misdemeanor indecent exposure and offensive conduct were dropped.

Scully frequently performs nude on stage. He was ticketed while swimming nude last July at Twin Lakes.

The Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/KX8xIM) reports Scully had vowed to take his case to trial. He planned to use witnesses from the arts community and photos of nude statues scattered throughout the city to support his point that nudity is not a crime.
