Road work continuing on area roadways

Construction work continues throughout the city, and Ninth Street NW between First and Eight avenues is no exception. In order to ensure the stability of a sanitary sewer pipe, the department is reinforcing it with piping around the outside.

“We are out there right now finishing up the concrete work,” said Assistant City Engineer Steven Lang.

Still to come are asphalt paving, finalizing the driveway and doing touch up work, which should lead through the week of Sept. 17. Work crews hope to have the street reopened by Sept. 21.

New projects

The Public Works Department has started two other projects, neither of which should impact any main thoroughfares in Austin. The first is on 22nd Avenue SW from 12th Street to 16th Street by Southgate School.

“They’re working on the water main and water service,” Lang said.

The work will continue through the end of October, and will block local traffic and buses going to and from the school.

“We’ve been working with the bus company,” Lang added.

The other project is on 13th Street NE, from Oakland to Fourth avenues, with some side roads on First and Third avenues also included. The work is a compilation of about eight blocks focused on underground utilities.
