Circus performer who allegedly stole truck arrested
A circus performer who allegedly stole a truck Monday in Austin was arrested less than one day after the alleged theft and may also be charged with a DWI.
The Wisconsin State Patrol stopped Mervin Bundy — who was driving the missing truck — at about 10:46 a.m. on Tuesday. Bundy, who had been calling himself 38-year-old circus performer Mervin Murphy, allegedly stole the truck on Monday shortly after chatting with the vehicle owner at an Austin gas station.
The patrol officer stopped Bundy on Interstate 90 in Junea County, Wis.; however, Bundy initially refused to give his identity. Juneau county authorities said Bundy matched the description of the alleged thief and may also be from Danbury, Conn.
The report does not state whether the officer spotted Bundy because of the stolen vehicle or DWI.
Bundy is pending formal charges in either county.
