Darren Dash set for Oct 13

This eighth annual Darren Dash, which honors the life of Austin native and running enthusiast, Darren Lewis will be held at the Veteran’s Pavilion on Oct. 13.

The half marathon will begin ad 8 a.m. and the 5K will start a 8 a.m. The kiddie run begins at 11 a.m.

All participants will receive a free t-shirt.

Proceeds from this event will go to a scholarship fund for Austin Cross Country runners and for programs committed to improving mental and physical health in the community. Darren Dash has given out over $18,000 in scholarships to date. T

Registration can be done on line at www.darrendash.org, or at the Eagles from 5 to 8 p.m. on Oct.12.

The third of four children, Lewis was born in Austin. He was the youngest Minnesotan to run Grandma’s Marathon at nine years old. He went on to compete at the high school level and ultimately became a solid competitor on the Mankato State Cross Country team.
