Suspect allegedly kicked victim in head

Austin police arrested a Stewartville man who allegedly knocked another man unconscious and repeatedly kicked him while he was down.

A witness said the alleged assailant, who police identified as Spencer Carter, 29, kicked the 41-year-old Austin victim in the head 15 to 20 times at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Fourth Avenue NE.

Police tended to the victim, who said he did not know what happened, according to the police report. The victim refused medical attention from Gold Cross and officers and was turned over to his fiancé. He reportedly had cuts on his head and nose, and a swollen face.

Police took a description of the suspect and later found Carter walking in the area with fresh blood on his knuckles, according to the report. Carter refused to give any information and was taken to the Mower County jail. The officer reported that Carter was intoxicated.
