Summerset debuts ‘Spamalot’

For the first time ever, “Spamalot” will hit SPAMtown, USA.

Monty Python’s “Spamalot” will open on Aug. 1 as the final show in Summerset Theatre’s 46th season. The show retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table and features beautiful show girls, flying cows, killer rabbits, French people … and, of course, plenty of everyone’s favorite canned ham.

“Of course Summerset has wanted to perform Monty Python’s Spamalot for quite some time,” Lindsey Duoos Williams, Summerset Theatre Executive Director and the show’s director/choreographer, said. “This musical is the perfect fit for Austin. We’ve had a lot of fun making this production our own; we’ve hidden some special references in the show that local residents will enjoy. I’ve been telling people that this might just be the SPAM-iest production of Spamalot yet! We’ll also have a different surprise “celebrity” cameo each night — though we won’t tell you who it’s going to be!”

Monty Python’s Spamalot will open at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1. Other performances are at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2-4 and 7-10. All performances are held at the Frank W. Bridges Theatre inside Riverland Community College.

Individual tickets to Monty Python’s Spamalot are $16 for adults and $11 for children age 16 and under. Tickets are on sale at the Summerset Theatre Box Office, located in room E107 in Riverland’s Austin East campus. Box office hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before performances. The box office can be contacted at 507-433-0595 or by emailing boxoffice@riverland.edu.

Starting this season, tickets are also available for purchase online at www.summersetaustin.org and the Summerset Theatre box office is able to accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards.

A special preview performance will be held at 7 p.m. July 31 as part of the annual “Knight Under the Stars” fundraiser. Tickets for the fundraiser are $50.
