Rebel boys advance to subsection semifinals

Alex Ruechel poured in 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the No. 4 seeded Southland boys basketball team crushed No. 5 Randolph (9-18 overall) 73-55 in the Section 1A West tournament quarterfinals in Adams Saturday.

“They boxed and one on Lukas [Anderson} today and Alex stepped up for us,” Southland head coach Matt Webber said. “I challenged Trent Reinartz to shut down their shooter and he did a good job.”

Lukas Anderson added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Rebels (6-20 overall), who will now play No. 1 Goodhue at Mayo Civic Center Monday at 6 p.m.

Goodhue beat Southland 58-32 Jan. 11 after Southland had played three games in three days.

“Goodhue’s a very good team but we think we can give them a good game,” Webber said.
