Shooting Star Trail ride back for 14th year

ROSE CREEK — It’s time to ride.

The 14th Shooting Star Trail Bike Ride is scheduled for Saturday to take riders of all levels around the trail, Mower County and the region.

The ride will start Saturday morning at the Rose Pedaler in Rose Creek, with registration beginning around 5:30 and going through 8:30 a.m. Participants can start riding at any time in-between.

Ride chair Sharon Jacobson noted that it’s not a race; it’s more of a leisurely cruise with a few hills.

“It’s a great organized ride if you haven’t done an organized ride before,” she said.

The ride started when the Shooting Star Trail was a little more than a mile long as a way to promote it. After attracting about 30 cyclists that first year, the ride is expected to draw about 150 this year, according to Jacobson.

The distance is up to the cyclist, with routes of 20, 50, 62 and 100 miles. Jacobson urged people riding the 100-mile race to begin no later than 7 a.m.

Rest stops will be available about every 10 miles. Registration for the race is $10 or $20 with a T-shirt. A family pack is available for $50, which includes four T-shirts.

The ride routes can be found at shootingstartrail.org.
