County closes chapter with Senior Advisory Committee disbanding

Parting isn’t such sweet sorrow after all.

The Mower County Board of Commissioners voted to dissolve the county’s Senior Services Advisory Committee Tuesday, a move both committee members and commissioners were amicable about.

The group approached the board asking whether it was still useful to the county, as in recent years committee members felt they were becoming an auxiliary group to the Mower County Senior Center.

“I guess we just need some direction,” said Ann Hanson, committee member.

According to Commissioner Ray Tucker, the committee was formed in 2003 to address senior citizens’ concerns in the county. Since the Mower County Senior Center’s increased presence Tucker and the other commissioners felt the committee had done good work and could now do more without getting board approval.

“It appears to me that we’ve accomplished what we set out to do,” Tucker said.
