Hearing to cover Vikings stadium financing options
ST. PAUL — Minnesota state senators are meeting for another Capitol hearing on the Vikings’ stadium push, this one to discuss how the state might raise money for a portion of the cost.
Two Senate committees convene a joint hearing Tuesday afternoon. It’s the second stadium discussion at the Capitol in a week’s time, after a hearing last week focused on possible locations.
The Vikings want to build a $1.1 billion stadium in suburban Ramsey County, but sites in Minneapolis are in play as well.
Tuesday’s hearing will include discussion on a wide range of funding possibilities including tax proceeds from expanded gambling, a surcharge on income taxes paid by NFL players, a pro sports ticket surcharge, sales tax on sports memorabilia, or money from existing arts and cultural funds.
