150 animals seized from farm

BIGFORK — A northern Minnesota couple has a court hearing next week after nearly 150 animals were seized from their property.

Itasca County sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant in late November at the Bigfork home of Joshua and Laura Anderson.

In court documents, a deputy says animals on the property did not have adequate shelter or water, and some were tied to short leashes. The deputy also reported the Andersons were feeding the dogs dead deer carcasses.

With help from Star of the North Humane Society, 146 animals were seized, including dogs, horses, chickens, a goat and rabbits.

Most of the dogs are at the Range Regional Rescue shelter in Hibbing, and will be up for adoption after Feb. 10.

The Andersons could not be reached for comment.
