Board raises salaries for several elected officials

Several Mower County elected officials got a belated Christmas present Thursday.

Commissioners approved salary increases for County Attorney Kristen Nelsen, Sheriff Terese Amazi, Recorder Jill Cordes, Auditor/Treasurer Doug Groh and non-union employees starting next year during a public meeting Thursday morning.

Nelsen’s salary will increase from about $98,700 to $101,532.

Amazi’s salary will increase from about $92,500 to $93,433. Amazi requested a 1 percent raise, in line with other employees in her department.

Cordes’ salary will increase from about $53,900 to $55,572.

Groh’s salary will increase from about $68,200 to $69,374. The board froze Groh’s salary for the past two years, but Commissioner Tony Bennett told the board Groh’s review this year found he had improved in several areas.

In addition, non-union employees’ salary pay ranges increased by 1 percent.

The board froze commissioners’ salaries at $24,200, the same level the board set for itself since 2008. Commissioners also set the county’s per diem payment for meetings at $40 per day, and $60 for joint meetings or meetings with more than one department.

Correction: This article stated County Attorney Kristen Nelsen received a raise from about $95,700 to $101,532 for 2013. Her salary in 2012 was about $98,700.
