Rose Creek expecting big crowd for 150th

Rose Creek will be celebrating 150 years during its annual Rose Creek Days this weekend. As a result, this year’s celebration will be bigger than in previous years.

“The City Council has gotten involved this year,” said Dean Bendtsen, a founding member of The Creek Club. “It used to be put on solely by The Creek Club.”

The event draws several thousand visitors each year, a big influx for a town with a population of 400.

According to Bendtsen, the centennial celebration drew 30,000 people.

This year’s celebration begins with a live performance by Pop ROCK on Thursday night.

Events will continue Friday afternoon with several kickball tournaments, a memorabilia display at City Hall, a beer garden, a fireman’s water fight and a DJ performance with US Country 99.9.

Events will run all day through Saturday, including the tractor pull, an all school reunion, kids’ carnival, a live performance from Good For Gary and, of course, the parade and fireworks display.

Events wrap-up on Sunday with softball and bean bag tournaments and a car and tractor show.

In commemoration of 150 years, the Rose Creek Post Office will be offering a limited special Rose Creek Sesquicentennial stamp for sale from 10:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Friday and 7:30 to 9:25 a.m. on Saturday only.

Bendsten encourages everyone to come out for the celebration.

“People can pick up on a little history of a small town not far from Austin,” he said.
