Hayfield grad Emily Blanchard gave the Blue Devils (1-5 overall) a lift in the third game as she served 10 straight points to make it 15-2. She finished with five ace serves and 13 digs on the night.

“I definitely had my rhythm going,” Blanchard said. “It’s nice to get that first win, and I’m happy with how they played tonight.”

RCC trailed the first game 11-5 before it got its offense going. RCC setter Courtney Perrin of Osage, Iowa led the attack with 17 set assists, and Ashley Sanderson of Waterville-Elysian-Morristown had nine kills.

Blanchard, who is 5-6, is playing middle hitter for RCC, but she’s not worried about being undersized. She even got up to make a couple of blocks on Wednesday.

“I’m used to it, but it’s definitely a challenge,” Blanchard said. “It’s been hard (this season) because we didn’t have any scrimmages, but it was it nice to play those harder teams earlier this season. Now we’re finally playing together.”

RCC stats: Ashley Sanderson, 9 kills; Emily Blanchard, 13 digs, 5 aces; Courtney Perrin, 17 set assists
