New clinic opens for speedy care

Austin residents now have another option for instant health care — Quick Care walk-in clinic.

Quick Care, which opened for the first time Tuesday, is located in the Austin Town Center, between Target and JoAnn Fabrics.

Debbie Shaffer, business manager for Quick Care, said the clinic will offer treatment for minor illnesses and injuries. It is not an emergency clinic, and no appointment is needed. Some of the clinic’s services include strep throat screening, pregnancy tests, sports physicals, mono testing and some labs and vaccinations.

Quick Care is independently owned by Shaffer and her husband, Dr. James Shaffer, who is the clinic’s physician.

“He’s wanted to do this for about the last 10 years,” Debbie said. “He’s been toying with the idea, and we thought this would be the good time to do it.”

An office visit to Quick Care costs $69; credit cards, c ash and insurance are accepted, and there is a discount for those who pay in cash.

“People need to afford local medical care and that’s what we’re aiming to give them,” Debbie said.
