Poetry finalists will present at library

Eberhart Poetry Contest judges announced Tuesday the 2013 finalists.

All finalists and their families are invited to the Eberhart Night of Poetry Event at 6:30 April 11 at the Austin Public Library. The event is put on in partnership with the Friends of the Austin Public Library and is open to the public.

Finalists will listen to the poetic sharing of Minnesota poet Joyce Sutphens, then read their own poems. School winners will be announced after all poems are shared, and certificates and awards will follow.

Participants in the 2013 Eberhart Poetry Contest and the Austin High School Language Arts Department judged the poems.

The finalists are:

Woodson Kindergarten Center: Jaiden Solberg and Izabella Sonnek; Banfield: Elizabeth Kinney (grade 2), Samuel Oelfke (grade 2), and Micha Weber (grade 4); Neveln: Alicia Longoria, (grade 3) and Elliot Wolff (grade 3); Southgate: Katilyn Johnson (grade 3), Saydie Olson (grade 3), and Zoe Quirindingo (grade 4); Sumner: Jackson Goetz (grade 4) and Rachel Yang (grade 4); Ellis: Sydney Conway (grade 8), Ben Kinney (grade 7), and Rebecca Younis (grade 8); Austin High School: Meghan Burroughs (grade 9), Megan Poczos (grade 11), Janet Ruiz (grade 11), and Taryn Sims (grade 12).
