Two injured in small plane crash near Rochester airport

ROCHESTER — Two of four people on board a small plane were injured when the pilot missed the runway while landing in heavy fog at the Rochester airport.

Rochester fire officials say the plane bounced and flipped end-over-end in a farm field before coming to rest on its top. Two men were taken to Saint Marys Hospital, but authorities say they were not critically injured. Another man and a boy weren’t seriously hurt in the crash about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

The plane’s pilot was able to call 911 for help. Fire officials say they were hampered by heavy fog in their search for the crash site and were able to use the phone’s GPS to locate the plane north of Rochester International Airport.

The plane left Austin Straubel Field near Green Bay, Wis., before the crash.
