Ex-AL resident going to prison for ‘pimping’

A former Albert Lea resident was sentenced Monday to four years in prison for promoting prostitution — aka “pimping” — in South Dakota.

Jeramy Caron, 35, pleaded guilty to one count of promoting prostitution and one count of pimping as part of a plea agreement with the Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Office, according to the Rapid City Journal.

The newspaper said Caron used two websites to find customers for his prostitutes and collected 30 percent of the women’s earnings, sometimes using some of the proceeds to pay for sex with the same prostitutes. He also filmed “how-to” videos of women who worked for him.

In a prepared statement at the sentencing, Caron apologized for his behavior and said he was “selfish, reckless and inexcusable,” according to the newspaper.

The Journal said Caron’s sentencing ends a case that started more than two years ago when his name was mentioned by prostitutes during a police investigation.

A prosecutor at the sentencing said Caron cooperated with police, giving them the name of prostitutes and their customers, the newspaper added.

He initially faced 12 counts of promoting prostitution and 12 counts of pimping.

Caron also faces two counts of promoting prostitution in Hamilton County, Ind., a case which has not yet been resolved. In that case, Caron and a Burnsville woman were arrested after a prostitution sting at a hotel.

The Indianapolis Police Department found out about their arrival through the Internet, where they were allegedly advertising their business and soliciting clients.

The Journal stated Caron was also briefly involved in prostitution more than 10 years ago before becoming actively involved again in 2007.
