It’s time to come together, community. In one way or another, cancer affects all of our families. So it’s time to go pink for a week to raise awareness about breast cancer, among other forms of the horrible disease.

1.) B-ball against cancer

Paint the Town Pink kicks off 7:30 p.m. Friday with the Austin High School girls basketball team vs. the Rochester Mayo Spartans. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students with a portion of the proceeds going toward cancer research. Bruiser the Bear will also make an appearance.

2.) Friday night entertainment

Over at the Paramount Theatre, 125 Fourth Ave. NE, catch some entertainment with a British drama, “Questioning Aslan.” The show about C.S. Lewis will start 7 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $12 or $8 each for groups of five or more.

3.) Fishing for a cure

What started as a simple fishing tournament years ago will continue as a cancer-fighting endeavor. Fishing for a Cure will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at East Side Lake with plenty of outdoor prizes available, free minnows, pre-drilled ice fishing holes, food and more. Entry is $15 for adults, $10 for children 14 and younger and proceeds will go to the Hormel Institute.

4.) Dancin’ for a cure

Back to the pack. The Austin Packers dance team winter show will be at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at Austin High School with a winter blanket raffle. Proceeds from that raffle will go toward Paint the Town Pink.

5.) Where it all started

Then it’s the event that started it all: Paint the Rink Pink. The ice is painted, and the players are ready to get rough — against the Brookings Blizzard and against cancer 7 p.m. Saturday night at Riverside Arena. As always, the annual pink ice game will feature speakers at intermission and plenty of raffles for prizes.

Other events

Didn’t get enough pancakes on Thursday? Everybody deserves a second chance, so head to the WELCA Pancake Feed at Grace Lutheran Church on Sunday for Pink pancakes and SPAM. And who can resist the call of Kenny’s Oak Grill? The Austin Bruins will be there Monday for an evening meet and greet.
