Driver killed in Saturday’s fatal crash identified

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has released the name of a man who died in a Saturday morning collision with a semi between Blooming Prairie and Owatonna.

According to the DPS report, Oscar Martinez, 30, of Owatonna, died after his 2011 Toyota Camry was struck by a 2009 Kenworth semi, driven by 52-year-old Del Mees of Dexter.

A State Patrol report states Mees was driving north while the Camry was traveling south. Martinez was killed as his car was totaled. The report states there was no alcohol detected in Martinez’s system. Mees also had no alcohol in his system or apparent injuries, and the semi received severe damage, according to the report.

State Patrol was on scene and both lanes were closed as officials investigated.
