Community Band kicking off summer on Wednesday

A local band is getting ready to treat the public during the lazy days of summer.

The Austin Community Band will hold its first free outdoor show of the year 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bandshell Community Park.

“It’s just an opportunity to get out and enjoy some local talent,” said Brian Koser, band director.

The 36-member band plays anything from toe-tapping, slow grooves and overtures to traditional marches.

“It’s been kind of a summer tradition for about 15 years,” Koser added.

Koser also suggests that spectators bring lawn chairs for extra seating, as the show is roughly one-hour long. Other concerts are scheduled for June 27 at the Bandshell, 7 p.m. July 2 at the Hormel Historic Home (jazz), and 6:30 p.m. again at the Bandshell on the Fourth of July.
