Laughs return with VFW show

Austin VFW Post 1216 continues it’s monthly comedy show “Very Funny Wednesday,” Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m., starring headliner John Conroy, with special guest Bryan Miller. Tickets are available for the special mid-week price of $5. The show is open to the public.

Washington, D.C., native, John Conroy, has devoted himself to making people laugh. Shortly after he relocated to Minnesota, his peers voted him “2008 Best New Comic in the Twin Cities.”

His sharp and well-crafted material then earned him the title of “2009 Funniest Person in the Twin Cities.” In addition, his videos on RooftopComedy.com are staff and celeb picks.

John Conroy’s material is smart, aggressive and uncompromising, which makes him a comedian that you won’t soon forget.

Bryan Miller, born into a family of undertakers, renounced all seriousness and quit his job as a newspaper editor to pursue comedy in 2008. In his first year in standup, he was a finalist in Acme’s Funniest Person in the Twin Cities contest, and he’s since played clubs, colleges, corporates, and dive-bars throughout the Midwest. He was recently featured on the Stand Up! Records compilation album “Nerd Alert,” and is a writer and performer for TV’s “Drinking with Ian.”

Austin VFW Manager Brad Mcbeain says, “We’re so glad that the folks of Austin and the surrounding area have supported the VFW by supporting our monthly “Very Funny Wednesday” shows. It’s so much fun to see everyone laughing and having a good time. Our comedians are always top notch and come in with high recommendations. The show lasts about 90 minutes which will get everyone home at a decent hour, and we really like that, too.”

“Very Funny Wednesday” starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at The Austin VFW, 300 4th Avenue, Austin. Tickets are $5 and are available at the VFW or by calling Brad at 507-589-9436, or Nathan at 507-279-2425.
