BP boys take second at Subsection 1A meet

The Blooming Prairie boys took second place at the Subsection golf 1A meet in Adams Monday and they will now advance to the Section 1A meet in Lake City next Tuesday.

BP, which shot a 357, was just three strokes behind first place Faribault Bethlehem Academy.

BP senior Dylan Hatch had three birdies and six pars as he shot an 82 and finished second overall.

Hatch will advance to the section meet along with BP freshman Victor Peterson, who as fourth with an 88, Pat Jones, who was eighth with a 92, and Jon Hatch, who was 13th with a 95.

Southland’s Matt Breitbarth, who was third with an 87, will advance individually to the section meet, and so will Southland’s Tyler Bergene and Nick Neuvirth. Hayfield sophomore Trevor Anderson was the last individual boy to make the cut for sections with a 95.

The L/P boys shot their best 18-hole round of the season with a 388, but they had four golfers come up short of advancing as individuals by three or less strokes.

In the girls meet, Lyle/Pacelli junior Jennie Marx was second overall with a 96 and she will advance to the section meet as an individual, along with her teammates Abby Leif, who was fifth with a 102 and Maggie Leif, who was 14th with a 112.

The Athletics finished with a 438, which was just two strokes from qualifying for the section meet as a team. The score was 24 strokes better than L/P shot in Adams in poor conditions last Friday.

“The girls shot well and I was happy with their score,” L/P head coach Mark Buntje said. “Abby had her best round of the year on the front nine and Jennie really stepped it up in the back nine.”

BP sent three individuals to the section meet as freshman Anna Noble took eighth with a 104, freshman Morgan Hagen was ninth with a 107 and junior Maggie Sorensen took 13th with a 111.

Southland sent one golfer to the section meet in Shawna Lewno, who was 17th with a 120.

Southland finished fourth, L/P was fifth and Hayfield was seventh out of nine teams in the boys meet.

L/P was third, BP was fourth and Southland was fifth out of five teams in the girls meet.
