Austin native to perform in fall opera at Luther

An Austin native is about to display his skills in an upcoming performance at Luther College.

Luther junior Braun Oldenkamp is performing in the fall opera scenes program “Duels, Divorce, and Divas: The Drama Unraveled” at 7 p.m. Nov. 22, and 1:30 p.m. Nov. 23, in Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther campus.

The performances are open to the public with no charge for admission.

Oldenkamp, the son of Jerol and David Oldenkamp of Austin, graduated from Austin High School in 2011 and is majoring in music at Luther.

Directed by Luther professors Karen Kanakis and Jacob Lassetter, the program will feature scenes drawn from well-known operas, including Verdi’s “La traviata,” Offenbach’s “Les contes d’Offmann,” Beethoven’s “Fidelio,” Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” Verdis “Falstaff,” Moore’s “The Ballad of Baby Doe” and Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onégin.”
