Police looking for burglary suspect

Police are looking for a suspect in an attempted burglary that happened Saturday afternoon.

Sheriff Terese Amazi said the suspect, a black man near the age of 56, tried to get into a 71-year-old rural Austin woman’s house while she was there.

The woman saw the man trying to get in and locked all the doors to her residence and called police. The man left in a 1990s silver Buick Century when he could not get into the house.

Amazi said the suspect is a 6-foot black man who is more than 200 lbs. and was wearing a black coat and stocking cap.

“People are reminded to lock their doors,” Amazi said.

She said the suspect has a history of approaching homes and telling the residents a story about a dog so he can get into the house.
