Local sculptor displays her work at Gymocha
Gymocha has a little local art to go with your latte.
An exhibit of artwork titled “Ballerinas, Cats and Lattes” by featured artist Titian Butash, an award-winning Austin sculptor, is on display at the art gallery at The Gymocha Coffee Shop in Austin.
“My sculpted works and paintings evoke the whimsical qualities of domestic cats,” Butash said. “Gymocha is the perfect showcase for these playful symbols of home and hearth.”
Butash is the first sculptor to exhibit at Gymocha. The sculpted pieces are made of clay with embellishments of hand-blown glass, pea pebbles and wire attachments to suggest interactive and kinetic qualities. Butash studied with the sculptor Deb Schnell, and the painter Tim Jones, at Riverland Community College.
Some of the sculpted works on display include “Skye Is Flying!,” “Sparrow,” “Littlest Robin,” and “Skye Is Fishing!” The paintings on display are mixed media and include “Monsieur Le Bonjour,” “Millais Mon Coeur,” “C’est Cayley,” “Flamingo” and “Le Tango Danceur.”
Butash has exhibited at The James Wegner Art Gallery in Austin. She is a member of the MNArtists.org, a project of The McKnight Foundation and Walker Art Center. The exhibit, sponsored by Alicia Scheevel of Austin, runs through June 30.
