Austin couple wins $150,000 in lottery game

“I always said we’re going to win the Gopher 5,” Austin resident Bill Nicol said.

“It’s always something that we’ve dreamed about,” added his wife, Linda Nicol.

When Bill checked the Gopher 5 ticket that Linda bought April 1, his prediction came true.

“I can’t believe it’s not an April fool’s joke,” Linda said, as she claimed the $150,000 jackpot. The first line of her five-line, quick-pick ticket matched all five numbers drawn on April 1 (3-18-30-37-44).

However, she hadn’t officially received the money, which her husband quickly pointed out.

“Well, you don’t have the check yet, dear,” Bill joked.

Linda purchased the ticket at the gas station she and her husband own. Her odds of matching all five numbers were one in 1,533,939.

A Gopher 5 jackpot worth $586,214 from the drawing on April 30, 2010 has not been claimed. Winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim prizes.
