Attend upcoming GOP or DFL state caucus

It’s that time of year for the Minnesota party caucuses.

I love talking policy and politics any time of year. What can I say? The lesson that it’s not polite to talk about politics never seemed to stick with me. Every once in a while, whether I’m talking to a Democrat or Republican, I hear a common lament: I gave up on my party because they are too moderate, too extreme, too out of touch, etc. The caucus system prevents all of us from using that tired excuse to get out of becoming involved. Whether DFL or Republican, our caucus system gives us the opportunity to let our voice be heard within our party, both as to our party’s platform and to our party’s candidates.

Show up to your caucus. Your viewpoint may or may not win the day.

But, if you fail to go to your party’s caucus, you forfeit your right to complain about your party.
