Churches discouraging abortions on Roe vs. Wade anniversary

While some will soon celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion for any reason, local churches are taking a much different approach.

This Sunday is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. It’s held on the closest Sunday to the anniversary of the Jan. 22, 1973, decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to legalize abortion.

Pregnancy resource centers help moms choose life for their babies by providing vital information and resources at no charge. In celebration of life, KJCY 95.5FM is sponsoring a baby shower for Rachel’s Hope in Austin.

Area churches are joining the effort to stock the center with diapers and essentials to help the mothers care for their babies. Grace Baptist Church in Austin will also highlight Sunday with a speaker.

Gifts may be taken directly to Rachel’s Hope, 808 West Oakland Ave. in Austin, or participating churches. Rachel’s Hope is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

A list of items needed is posted on the KJCY website, kjcy.com. For more information about Rachel’s Hope, visit rachelshope-mn.org or call 507-437-7595.
