Taopi Post Office closed for good

The Taopi Post Office has shut its doors forever.

Judy Jasper, LeRoy Postmaster, said the Taopi office shut down Friday, but there won’t be any changes in delivery. A mail carrier out of Adams will deliver the mail, Jasper said.

“There will be no changes in service or anything,” Jasper said. “Everything will be 100 percent good delivery.”

The Taopi office used to be open from 8:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on weekday mornings. Jasper said there will be lockers available for package delivery and mailboxes for regular mail outside the Taopi Post Office building.

“It’s all secure,” she said. “We appreciate any business from any customer who wants to do any mailing, and it will all be safe.”

The Taopi Post Office is one of seven small-town Minnesota post offices that closed for good last week, the latest setback for communities that have seen a steady exit of community institutions and businesses.

Other towns where post offices are closing are Steen, Silver Creek, Kenneth, Clements, Trail and Holland.
