Teen will be charged for hitting mom in face

An Austin teen was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly hitting his mother in the face.

Jeremy Brandl, 19, is being held in the Mower County jail pending criminal charges, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

Krueger said police were called to the 400 block of 11th Street NW around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, and the 45-year-old mother claimed her son had assaulted her.

Officers found the woman’s oldest son, 21-year-old Jesse Brandl, in a bedroom of the house with the window open. Jeremy allegedly fled out the first-story window, Krueger said.

As officers were trying to get details of the incident from the mother, Jesse allegedly interrupted continuously and would not leave the room upon the officer’s request. He was arrested and cited for obstructing legal process. He was held in the Mower County jail until he was sober, Kruger said.

The victim went to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin to take care of her injuries, and while officers were there, Jeremy Brandl returned to the scene of the assault, where he was then arrested.

According to Krueger, the mother told police her sons had been drinking and used her vehicle without her permission, which caused a verbal argument. The argument escalated, and Jeremy allegedly hit her in the face.

Jeremy will likely be charged in Mower County District Court in the coming days.
