Lyle schools ask voters to renew $1.5M levy

Though the turmoil in Lyle has largely faded from the public eye, Lyle’s financial strength may be in jeopardy if voters don’t renew a $1.5 million referendum this Tuesday.

At stake is about $158,000 per year out of Lyle’s overall budget of $3.2 million annually. About $50,000 of the referendum comes from voters, while the rest comes from state funding.

If voters don’t renew the referendum, Lyle would lose more than $1 million over the next 10 years, according to Superintendent Jim Dusso.

The Lyle School Board and administration have come under fire in recent months from concerned community members and former staff who question Dusso’s leadership. The board has publicly supported Dusso’s tenure as superintendent since he was hired in May to replace former superintendent Jerry Reshetar. Only member Dan King has publicly expressed discontent with Dusso’s performance as superintendent.

Board member Scott Nelson resigned in mid-October, though district officials would not comment why.
