Winter weather advisory issued; Mostly rain, sleet expected in Austin

With much of the state bracing for snow, the Austin area will likely see a wintry mix over the weekend.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory through noon Sunday, as freezing rain was expected to start Saturday night and continue through Sunday morning before turning over to mostly rain in the afternoon, when temperatures were expected to reach a high of 36.

Late Sunday, the precipitation was expected to transition into snow, with up to a few inches expected by Monday afternoon.

The weather service warned driving conditions could turn treacherous.
