Honors

—Julia Bartemes, Kaitlynn Carroll, and Darrin Sellers, of Austin, were named to Drake University’s dean’s list in spring 2012.

—Colton Scherer, of Austin, was named to the Hamline University dean’s list in spring 2012.

—Gabriel Benedict , Leihla Wachlin and Kari Johnson, all of Austin, was named to the University of St. Thomas dean’s list in spring 2012.

—Ashley Kiefer, of Adams, graduated from Mankato State University Master of Social Work program July 28.

Military graduations

—Navy Seaman Yasmine Smith, sister of Brandon Smith of Austin, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Smith is a 2011 graduate of Blooming Prairie High School.

—Army National Guard Pvt. Rebecca Grosam, of Brownsdale, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Grosam is the daughter of Ilene Grosam of Brownsdale, and sister of Aimee Whiteaker of Austin. She is a 2007 graduate of Hayfield High School.
