Vacation show slated for Friday to Sunday

It’s time for a legion of giveaways, prizes and specials.

Hordes of Austinites will converge on the 38th annual Austin Home and Vacation Show this weekend, which is packed with nearly 130 booths and something unique for every interest and age group.

The show is in Packer Arena, 601 Seventh St. NE, for the second-straight year, and will go from 3 to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The show, with an entry fee of $1, is filled with fun and information for home, lawn, garden, pets and more. Prizes include a Breezy Point vacation for two valued at $1,222, a swing set with an attached club house, a Schwinn Airdyne exercise bike, tickets to the Paramount Theatre, $500 in cash, $100 in Austin Chamber of Commerce bucks, a 2012-13 Austin Bruins season pass, and a kitchen prize package.

A sample of what the booths have to offer include: pet and garden supplies, RV service and accessories, golf carts, mattresses, basement services, bathroom restoration, pools and spas, home health care, asphalt and paving, travel ideas, home and business security, heating and cooling, home electronics, and countertops and cabinets.

The Austin Daily Herald’s booth, No. 36 — toward the middle of the center aisle, across from Sleep Number by Select Comfort — offers prizes, a special subscription rate, and a chance to meet the newsroom. Reporters Trey Mewes and Matt Peterson will be there 5-7 p.m. today, photographer Eric Johnson is there 9-11 a.m. Saturday, reporter/layout editor Jason Schoonover will be there 3-4 p.m. Saturday, and reporter Kevin Coss will stop by from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
