Hayfield baseball team knocks off Kenyon-Wanamingo
The Hayfield baseball team didn’t panic when it fell behind early and it ended up with its biggest win so far this season as it topped Kenyon-Wanamingo (2-4 overall, 1-4 HVL) 6-4 in Hayfield Tuesday.
Cam Rutledge hit a sacrifice fly to give Hayfield a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning.
The Knights scored one run in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4 and it could’ve been a much bigger for KW as they had runners at the corners with no outs, but Rutledge pitched his way out of the jam.
The Vikings (3-3 overall, 2-3 HVL) trailed 3-0 in the first inning, but they used 10 hits on the day to get back in the game.
“It’s a very big win,” Hayfield head coach Kasey Krekling said. “Their pitcher is a very good pitcher and he just one-hit Stewartville last week. Our hitters are swinging very confident bats and it’s showing.”
