It’s over.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” opened at midnight Friday, and more than 400 local residents went to watch one of the most beloved young adult book series come to an end on the big screen.

“It’s the conclusion of the greatest series that ever existed,” said Michael Kroymann, 14, at the Cinemagic 7 movie theatre in Austin Thursday night.

The series brought in close to $30 million before opening, almost breaking the record for most pre-sale sales before a movie. “Twilight: Eclipse” holds the record with $30 million.

While everyone at Cinemagic was excited to see the movie, there were plenty of wistful movie watchers a little saddened by the end of the series.

“I’ve been watching these movies ever since I was a little girl,” said Hope McAllister.

The experience will carry fond memories for young movie-goers, however.

“This is our generation’s movie,” said Mark Mizrachi, 14.
