Worlein plans to offer grief support group

Worlein Funeral Home is offering support for those dealing with grief from losing a loved one.

A five-week support group will be held at the Oak Park Mall Community Room, next to the Art Center. The group will meet weekly, beginning on Tuesday, July 17, and running through Aug. 14.

Meetings will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a different presenter each week. An informal lunch gathering will follow for anyone interested.

Mary Kittelson, the support group’s organizer, said the majority of people who have attended in past years are grieving the loss of a loved one. But people come for other reasons, too.

“We also recognize the fact that people suffer other kinds of losses,” she said.

These could include loss of physical ability, independence, spouse or a job.

Kittelson lines up guest speakers for each week, often from area clergy or the staff at Riverland Community College.

“I get a lot of help from the community,” she said.

The Sears store in the mall provides audio and visual equipment so the group can show relevant film clips.

Kittelson invites all who feel the support group would benefit their healing. There is no charge nor age requirement to attend, and no advance registration is necessary. Contact Mary at 507-433-5000 or 507-583-7561.
