Evening in Red raises $32K

The 10th annual Evening in Red raised $32,000 on March 16 to support the work of the American Red Cross in Freeborn and Mower Counties.

Evening in Red Chair Mary Kleis called the event “a great success.” Master of ceremonies Jason Baskin and auctioneer Joel Demro encouraged the attendees to bid high and bid often.

Attendees gave $5,000 direct support to the local disaster relief fund, which supports families devastated by home fires. This service provides shelter, food, clothing, medial and emotional support for the immediate needs of these families.

“The committee — Mary Kleis, Juliana Pena-Marconi and Jennifer Forbes — did an awesome job in pulling together a wonderful evening,” Red Cross Executive Director Elaine Hansen said. “We had several volunteers who also working hard in preparation for the event, working Saturday night and helping sort things out today.”

The committee is putting together their notes and making plans for next year. For more information about the event or to donate items to the auction, contact Hansen at 507-437-4589.

The event was held at the Austin Country Club.
