Runnings celebrating its Austin grand opening

Runnings is ready to celebrate its arrival in Austin.

To celebrate the recent opening of its store at 1400 18th Ave. NE, Runnings in Austin is kicking off a seven-day grand opening celebration on Monday, complete with prize giveaways, demonstrations and celebrity appearances.

The 95,000-square-foot store opened in early April in the former K-Mart.

“We’re extremely proud of our new store and want to celebrate it with the entire community,” store manager Everett Hackensmith said in a press release. “We have all kinds of events, prizes and fun for the entire family lined up and we’re just really excited to show off our new store.”

The grand opening runs from May 12 to May 18 and features a number of events, including an appearance by former Minnesota Viking and hall-of-famer John Randle from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. next Saturday, a hot dog and brat feed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, food sampling, vendor demonstrations, an appearance by Laura Schara, from TV’s Due North Outdoors, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Austin Bruins mascot Bruiser will be in-store on Friday and Saturday. Plus, the first fifty customers in the door each morning receive a free Runnings cap.

Runnings will also give away more than $50,000 in prizes, including a 2013 Ford F-150 Truck, a five day Big Elk Hunt to New Mexico and much more.

Runnings sells sporting goods, clothing, housewares, tools, pet, farm, lawn & garden, toys and more. Along with a large inventory of hunting, archery and fishing equipment, Runnings will sell a wide assortment of pistols, rifles and shotguns.

Runnings in Austin is open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
